Here’s my schedule:
Friday, Oct 22: La Vie Parisienne by Jacques Offenbach at The Moores Opera House, University of Houston, 7:30 pm. I’m eager to see what Buck Ross has come up with for this bubbly operetta. You probably won’t be able to catch this anywhere else in town ever, and the students here are skilled performers. And the price is right ($15 adults, or $10 for students & seniors).
Saturday, Oct 23: Boris Godunov by Modest Mussorgsky from the Metropolitan Opera in NYC Live in HD at a theater near you, starts early at 11 am because of its length (4.25 hours). It’s a new production starring René Pape, the German bass who has received great press about his performance in this opera that opened on October 18 ($24 adults, $22 seniors).
Sunday, Oct 24: Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini at Houston Grand Opera at 2:00 pm. Ana María Martínez debuts as Cio-Cio San, known as Butterfly. She has always excelled in the past and I expect she will be superb in this role. Get your hanky ready, it’s a weeper.
Have fun and if you love opera, be grateful you live in Houston where we have so much to see!
